Labasheeda was formed in Amsterdam in 2004. The current line up is : Saskia van der Giessen (vocals, guitar, violin), Arne Wolfswinkel (guitar), Thanos Fotiadis (bass) and Dyan Ramekers (drums).
Labasheeda’s sound is raw and peppered with unexpected musical twists and turns. Instrumentals provide the foundations for Saskia’s often distorted violin solos, poppy melodies are suddenly interrupted by burts of noise.
The band often ventures onto foreign soil and last year toured England and Germany.
In 2007 the original bassist David Jackson moved to London and Arne Wolfswinkel (ex-Chimney Brothers) became the second guitar player. Bassist Thanos Fotiadis joined the band last october, recently followed by Dyan Ramekers on drums.
The new EP A Few of a Population (2009), the follow up to the well received first album Charity Box (2006) is released on their own Presto Chango label on 10” vinyl, including a CD for those who haven’t realised that it’s hip to blow the dust off th record deck in the attic.
